I saw a monkey.

I know what you’re thinking. Kelly, you’ve waited 32 years to see a monkey in the wild and when you FINALLY get the chance to take a picture, you take this blurry ass shot. Well, first of all. Stop judging me. I’m a writer not a photographer.

Second of all, it’s blurry because while I was shooting this I was also running away from the sneaky little shit. I think he fancied my camera and chased after me. Thankfully, Alice charged back and saved my life. This one is a little better but not much.
More monkeys later. And from a safer distance. But first, let me tell about this magical place where they live. It’s called the MacRitchie Reservoir. It’s just a short bus trip from the hotel. And it’s absolutely beautiful. If I were a monkey I’d live here too. But I wouldn’t chase after cute ladies with cameras. I’d be a nice little monkey.

Anyway, we went on a 16KM hike around the water and thru the trees (16KM is around 10 miles, Americans ) Here are some photos I snapped along the way.

The highlight was probably the tree tops. It was quite a climb and I’m scared to death of heights. But it was totally worth it. Here’s what it looks like up there.

For the record, I don’t really like this photo. But I know mom will like seeing my smiling face 🙂

I did mention my fear of heights, right?

Thanks for taking this one, Alice.

At the end of the hike we found monkey heaven. They were playing and swimming and carrying around their babies. So adorable, especially from far away 🙂

So my monkey mission is accomplished. I can move back now. But, I don’t want too. Last night was just as enjoyable as my day. Met some new people on the roof of our place and shared gin & tonics. After that, we went to an awesome restaurant and shared some Indian food. I’m also starting to meet some cool people at work and working on some good assignments. AND, if everything works out I’ll be moving in with an Australian couple when my corporate housing is up. I’m going to miss my little Forest Wangz family but looking forward to what’s next.

  1. It is possible that the monkey chasing you thought you were a close relative! Loved the pictures- glad you got to see a monkey especially after the disappointment of the news about caning. Glad work is progressing. Keep the blog coming – luv ya

  2. Yes, Kelly, I was more than happy to see your smiling face! And mine is smiling too, knowing that things are going well for you both work and socially, as I was sure it would! Your pictures were amazing and it looks like I better increase my walking so I will be able to do the 10 mile hike when we come visit. Monkeys off your bucket list…closer to coming home:) I love and miss you! Mom

  3. Kelly….hiking on that tree top hanging bridge must have been amazing! Scary too! I am scared of heights and would have been gripping the sides and walking as fast as I could! But you posed for a picture!
