Next stop on Awesome Friend’s Asiacation – Bangkok. As you may know, this city already holds a place on my top 10. But in less than 24 hours, it managed to moved up one step on the list. Most definitely because of the amazing company, but also because of the amazing food this company exposed me too.
During the day, we soaked in a bit of tourism and culture with a longboat ride down the Chao Phraya river. Here are some pics of that.
But, it was our one night in Bangkok that I will never forget. Thanks to my foodie friends, I got a better taste of the city (pun obviously intended) at the Issaya Siamese Club. Now BKK holds the record for “my first foreign city” AND “my first tasting menu”. This rookie blue-collared stomach was not prepared for such a culinary experience. When I announced to the table “Hey guys, I’m really full” after only the second or third course, their eyes got wide and mouths dropped open. I obviously had no clue how much food I had signed up for. I just assumed that a “tasting menu” would be small bites (aka a taste) of tasty Thai things. I’ve never been so happy to be so wrong. Because right after my stomach tried to wave the white flag, 2 of the biggest lobsters I have ever seen (and I worked at RED LOBSTER, folks π were delivered to the table.
Our life of luxury didn’t end with the 132nd course of dinner (exaggerating for comedic effect, laugh now). The next morning at 6am we hoped our fancy (and very tired) asses on a flight to what is listed as “Possibly the Sexiest Villa in Koh Samui.” I think once you see the pictures, you’ll agree the world “Possibly” is totally unnecessary. Although, maybe the modesty makes it even sexier? Anyway, prepared to be amazed and totally jealous.
While it was hard to leave the sexiest villa, we did manage to get ourselves on a boat and spend a day on the ocean.
Lot’s of memories were made. But you know what they say, all good things must come to an end (unless you people move to ASIA!!!!)
Next stop, CHINA π
But for now, I’ll leave you with a bonus picture of Max crammed in the back of our 8 passenger van with all our luggage. Also, big thanks to Nick for taking the wheel in Thailand and driving on the wrong side of the road for 5 whole days. You rock.
*Please note that the best photos in this bunch belong to my talented travel buddies.
